Super Bowl 2024: Patrick Mahomes aims for third victory
Patrick Mahomes will secure his third Super Bowl victory if he leads the Kansas City Chiefs to triumph against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, February 11.
With this potential win, he and his team would become the first repeat champions in the NFL in nearly a decade, following the footsteps of Tom Brady and the New England Patriots, who achieved this feat in the 2003 and 2004 seasons.
“My career goals have always been the same and it’s to not have any regrets. No matter what I do, I’m going to give everything I have to the game,” said Mahomes.
“Whatever that ends up with, how many Super Bowl rings that is, however many wins that is, I know that I gave everything I have.”
Mahomes’ track record
Mahomes is often compared to Brady, a legendary quarterback who secured seven Super Bowl victories over his 23-year career.
In Mahomes’ seven seasons as quarterback, he has amassed a total of 231 touchdowns and 28,424 passing yards, surpassing Brady, who achieved 150 touchdowns and 21,564 passing yards in his first seven seasons.
Mahomes has won the MVP award twice, while Brady only secured the MVP award in his eighth season.
Mahomes’ track record demonstrates his capability. In 2019, he played a vital role in helping the Chiefs win the Super Bowl. At the time, the Chiefs were facing the 49ers. Six and a half minutes before the match ended, the 49ers were in the lead by 10 points.
However, Mahomes managed to turn the situation around, leading the Chiefs to victory in the Super Bowl.
Last year, in the match against the Philadelphia Eagles, Mahomes threw three touchdowns, once again securing the win for his team, the Chiefs. Even when Mahomes loses, his performance still impresses the audience.
At the moment, Brady still holds the title of the most successful quarterback of all time. However, Mahomes seems to be aiming for that title.

Mahomes’ strengths and passion
In 2021, the Chiefs fought against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, led by Brady, in the Super Bowl. Despite Mahomes and the Chiefs losing, Mike Florio, a sports writer, still said that Mahomes managed to throw some of the “best incomplete passes in NFL history.”
In an interview with Pro Football Talk, Chris Simms, a former NFL quarterback, praised Mahomes, calling him “special.” He said, “It’s incredible what we’re witnessing… and he’s not going anywhere. He’s truly entering the prime of his career.”
Simms also complimented Mahomes on his ability to remain composed, even when facing formidable teams like the Philadelphia Eagles or the San Francisco 49ers. Even legendary quarterbacks like Doug Williams compliment him.
“When I look at Patrick play, when I see him lead his teammates and do whatever it takes to win, I know what I’m seeing, I’m seeing greatness,” said Williams, the first Black quarterback to win the MVP award.
Williams mentioned that he wasn’t surprised by how quickly Mahomes achieved various milestones because he believes that the 28-year-old quarterback excels at being a quarterback and can remain composed in “big situations.”
Williams also commended Mahomes’ passion for football as a sport. He said, “And I see the fun he has and how much he loves this game. He usually has a smile on his face, and he’s cool no matter what’s going on around him out there.”
