Mercado Bitcoin has entered a strategic partnership with Ripple to tokenize more than $200 million worth of real-world assets. The initiative is the issuance of permissioned fixed-income and equity securities on the XRP Ledger. This step aligns with the company’s move to establish its presence in the international financial markets.

Through the initiative, the partnership seeks to increase cross-border liquidity and access to regulated digital products. Additionally, it will focus on South American and European markets. Ripple will help in onboarding these assets onto the XRP Ledger. Mercado Bitcoin had previously deployed Ripple payment solutions between Brazil and Portugal. They were also the initial Brazilian exchange to offer Ripple’s stablecoin RLUSD. This new partnership is considered one of the largest tokenization efforts in Latin America on the XRPL network. Moreover, it also indicates increased interest in the blockchain of regulated financial products.

XRPL Offers Efficient Tokenization Infrastructure

The XRP Ledger is characterized as quick, stable, and efficient in conducting transactions. XRPL, launched in 2012, was created to make secure and fast payments and issue tokens. More than 3.3 billion transactions have been relayed over the network with no security or system failures.

This shift has been identified in a recent report by Ripple and Boston Consulting Group. The tokenized asset market is projected to rise to 149 trillion in 2033 from 0.64 trillion in 2025. The growth is attributed to the growth in demand within the institutions and the maturity of digital infrastructure.

Ripple Partnership Strengthens Cross-Border Reach

The recent move by Mercado Bitcoin is a clear indicator of the adoption of blockchain in Latin America. Real-world assets worth more than R$1 billion have already been tokenized, with all of them having reported a zero-default ratio.
