Cronos Launches Prepaid Crypto Card Service for Seamless Crypto-to-Fiat Transfers

Cronos has introduced a feature that lets users send their cryptocurrency directly to a prepaid crypto card. This feature was developed in partnership with Crypto.com, whereby it offers one-click off-ramping flexibility, enabling users to withdraw their funds to a Crypto.com prepaid card. This improves the integration of decentralized finance with real-world transactions.

Seamless Crypto Off-Ramping for Prepaid Card Users
According to the press release, users can connect a non-custodial wallet on Cronos EVM or Cronos zkEVM to a Crypto.com prepaid card. This integration enables them to fund their Crypto.com prepaid card within seconds. In case an unsupported token is utilized, it is instantly converted to either USDC or ETH to guarantee access to the funds.
Through the elimination of several steps in the conversion process, Cronos reduces the issue of waiting for long periods. This means users do not have to rely on centralized exchanges or wait for bank transactions. Instead, they can use their Crypto.com prepaid card for their purchases without delays.
Ken Timsit, the Head of Cronos Labs, noted that this has brought utility to crypto by enabling its practical use in daily life. He added, “Users can off-ramp from the crypto nearly instantly and spend it anywhere they can use prepaid cards.” This step brings a connection between decentralized finance and traditional financial services.
Crypto.com Partnership Enhances Crypto Payment Solutions
Crypto.com has been an early investor in Cronos, and it actively seeks to promote the use of blockchain technology in the real world. According to Eric Anziani, the President and COO of Crypto.com, this feature marked a key development. He noted, “This partnership aims to make cryptocurrencies more convenient for such usage.”
Most cryptocurrency-to-fiat transactions involve several transfer processes, which make them quite cumbersome. By eliminating such barriers, Cronos makes the Crypto.com prepaid card a feasible option compared to traditional banking systems. In this case, consumers can now manage their digital materials seamlessly.
The feature is available for both Cronos EVM and Cronos zkEVM, which operates based on zkSync technology. Ethereum users have the advantage of easy ‘off-ramp’ from Cronos through the Cronos zkEVM, which connects to the Ethereum network. This enhances the experience of using prepaid crypto cards and targets a wider market with them.
Future Plans and Expanding Crypto Payments
Subsequent to the launch, Cronos intends to implement an automatic transfer system of DeFi yields. This upgrade will enable users to channel their staking rewards as well as other earned income into the Crypto.com prepaid card top-up process. This feature will also ensure the continuous expansion of decentralized finance applications in consumer spending.
However, Cronos is not alone in expanding crypto payment solutions. Recently, The Avalanche Foundation collaborated with Rain to introduce the Avalanche Card. This card allows for spending of cryptocurrencies on different merchants. Moreover, Crypto.com increased its Visa card offering to users in Latin America with cashback and rewards.
